We’ve all been in that situation: you’re having a conversation with your friends, desperately searching for the perfect TikTok video that relates to the topic at hand. You scroll through the app, but it’s always a little too late. Your companions have already moved on to another conversation, leaving you in a state of frustration.
But fear not! TikTok actually stores every video you’ve watched in the past 180 days, even if you’ve quickly scrolled past it. Retrieving your watch history is simple, and I’ll show you how.
Accessing Your TikTok Watch History
Finding your TikTok watch history is a piece of cake, although it may not be immediately obvious within the app. To get started, open the search menu by tapping on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, simply type a period in the search bar and click “Search.”
You might see a selection of seemingly random videos, but don’t worry. At the top of the search results, you’ll notice a button that says “View your watch history.” Tap on that button, and you’ll be taken on a trip down memory lane, reliving all the videos you’ve binged on TikTok.
Deleting Your TikTok Watch History
If you’re looking for a fresh start and want to clear your TikTok watch history, it’s also possible to do so. Begin by clicking on the human-shaped button at the bottom right of the screen to navigate to your profile. From there, tap the three lines menu (often referred to as the “hamburger menu”) at the top right and select “Settings and privacy” at the bottom.
In the settings menu, choose the “Comment and watch history” option. Here, you’ll find your entire watch history, as well as a list of every comment you’ve ever left using your TikTok account. To delete your watch history, tap on “Select” at the top right, choose the videos you want to remove from the list, and hit the big red delete button at the bottom right. Say goodbye to your watch history!
It’s worth noting that there’s currently no option to mass delete your comment history; you’ll have to remove them one by one.
A Closer Look at TikTok Watch History
Curious about what TikTok does with your watch history? Tap on “Learn more about watch history” at the top of the video list you’ve scrolled through. According to TikTok, they only store videos you’ve watched within the last 180 days. Additionally, live videos and stories you’ve visited won’t appear in your watch history. Videos watched on accounts other than the one you’re currently using to access the archive won’t be saved either.
TikTok claims that deleting your watch history is permanent. However, they do store your watch history “for some time” to optimize your experience and prevent duplicate videos from appearing in your feed.
Now that you know how to access and manage your TikTok watch history, you can easily find those hilarious videos and even start with a clean slate. Happy scrolling!
