The network is now available across streaming platforms including LG Channels, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Vizio WatchFree+, Tubi, Plex, and XUMO with even more fresh content across Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, Twitter and YouTube. Fubo Sports Network is also available as part of FuboTV’s subscription packages featuring 125+ leading sports, news and entertainment channels.
Is FuboTV free with Amazon Prime?
Earlier this week, FuboTV (FUBO -6.96%) extended its sports-streaming media reach to a massive platform. The Fubo Sports Network is now available in the Freevee sections of Amazon (AMZN 1.41%) Prime, adding more than 155 million devices across a variety of media-streaming hardware platforms.
This agreement seems important at first glance. Unfortunately, I’m not convinced that it will help fuboTV (or Amazon) a whole lot. Here’s why.
Does FuboTV come with Amazon?
FuboTV, known for being a top choice for live sports streaming, is now available on Amazon Freevee. This expansion means that FuboTV can be accessed on more than 155 million devices, reaching more fans across various streaming platforms.
Viewers can enjoy Fubo Sports Network’s live sports events, award-winning original shows, and content from partners on Amazon Freevee. This service offers a vast collection of movies and TV shows, including original content and FAST channels, all for free.
While FuboTV and Amazon Prime are separate services, they do interconnect in some ways. For instance, you can download and use the FuboTV app on Amazon, like Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube. These devices also work with Amazon Prime, making it convenient for users to access a wide range of content.
Should you use FuboTV?
If you love watching live sports, news, and regular cable shows, FuboTV is a great option. It offers many channels in its basic plan and lets you add more channels you like. Fubo Sports Network expands distribution to Amazon’s Freevee
Free streaming sports channel Fubo Sports Network from virtual MVPD FuboTV has expanded distribution with a new launch on Amazon’s Freevee.
With Amazon as its latest partner the Fubo Sports Network is now available on more than 155 million devices across a variety of streaming platforms. The free live TV channel launched in September 2019 and is also available on free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) services including LG Channels, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Vizio’s WatchFree+, Fox’s Tubi, Plex, and Comcast’s Xumo, as well as in podcast form.
Subscribers to Fubo’s subscription TV package also have access to the channel, which features athlete-focused content. Content from the network can also be found on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube.
According to the company, Fubo Sports Network ended September 2022 with its highest viewership to date – marking a 121% increase year over year.
Alongside growing distribution, Fubo has been adding more content to the sports streaming network. That includes two new series “Airing It Out with Housh and Scandrick” and “The Young Person Basketball Podcast with R.J. Hampton.” The channel also offers live streams of soccer, MMA, and documentaries.
“With the launch of Fubo Sports Network on Amazon Freevee, we’re bringing our athlete-driven programming and original series to more eyeballs than ever before,” said Pamela Duckworth, head of Fubo Networks and originals at FuboTV, in a statement. “There is a growing appetite for the voice of the athlete and our goal is to connect with fans wherever they choose to consume content. Platforms like Freevee allow us to do just that at no extra cost for our audiences. We’re delighted to join Freevee’s impressive lineup of premium channels.”
Does this deal help either FuboTV or Amazon?
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when this deal was signed. Somebody dropped the ball, and I’m not even sure on which side of the negotiating table.
Amazon doesn’t look like a very helpful partner here, and I’m being generous. FuboTV might expect its larger media-streaming partner to contribute some meaningful marketing assistance and perhaps an easy-to-spot link to the new partner’s content on Prime Video’s landing page. At the very least, Prime Video’s search function should help you find the channel.
I don’t expect this deal to move the needle for FuboTV in any meaningful way. The deal strikes me as a lost opportunity. Those untold millions of Amazon-based new viewers don’t amount to much if none of them are stumbling over the new addition.
On the flip side of the same coin, Amazon would almost certainly benefit from trying a bit harder, too. The IMDb TV was rebranded to Freevee to make more Amazon Prime subscribers notice this service and take advantage of it. FuboTV is a well-respected name in sports broadcasting, and I imagine that a more ambitious co-branding project could have raised Freevee’s profile, as well.
As a longtime Amazon shareholder, I’m disappointed by this minimal effort, but I’m not really surprised.
The company does a great job promoting its products and services but is much less likely to deliver high-quality marketing muscle for other companies. That’s just the way Amazon rolls, for better or worse.
Maybe FuboTV could have ponied up a larger distribution fee to secure a better marketing service — and maybe there was no such option on the table. We may never know. Either way, this fumbled exchange neither helps nor harms Amazon and FuboTV investors.
