What is Prime day on Amazon? When is Prime Big Deal Days?

What is Prime day on Amazon? Amazon Prime Day is back this October on the 10th and 11th, for a Prime Big Deal Days event, packed with exclusive members-only deals. It acts as an excellent warm-up to Black Friday but comes packing discounts to rival the deals behemoth on select items.

Expect to see low prices across thousands of products at the online giant. As indicated by the name though, you will need to be a Prime member to enjoy these exclusive discounts. On the plus side, if you’re not a member when the sale kicks off, you’ll be able to sign up for a free 30-day trial to avoid missing out and are free to drop it once the sale’s over if you don’t want to turn into a paying subscriber.

The sale involves big discounts on almost every category Amazon has under its vast empire: tech, gadgets, home, kitchen, garden, fashion, jewelry, beauty, gaming, and many more. As you’d expect, Amazon really leans on its own products, usually giving the year’s lowest prices on Kindles, Echo smart speakers, Fire TV Sticks, and Fire Tablets — usually with prices even lower than Black Friday’s.

Here’s everything else you need to know about Amazon Prime Day and how to find the best Prime Day deals for you.

When is Prime Big Deal Days?

Prime Big Deal Days runs from Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 3 a.m. ET through Wednesday, Oct. 11. That’s three months after Amazon’s flagship Prime Day sale in July and about six and a half weeks out from Black Friday.

This marks the third time Amazon has held a Prime-exclusive sale in the fall, and the second time it’s hosted two Prime events in the same year: It moved Prime Day 2020 to October because of the COVID-19 pandemic and followed up Prime Day 2022 with the Prime Early Access Sale this same time last year. That name didn’t stick, evidently.

What’s new about Prime Big Deal Days this year?

New moniker aside, Amazon isn’t reinventing the wheel for Prime Big Deal Days. Anyone who’s shopped a Prime event before already knows the drill: It’s two days of sitewide doorbusters, with Amazon’s own devices and services getting the steepest price drops.

It is worth mentioning that Amazon has revived its invite-only deals program for products it expects to sell out on Prime Big Deal Days, a carry-over from Prime Day 2023. Prime members can visit these products’ listings to request an invitation, and if chosen, you’ll receive an email with a unique link to buy the item at some point during the sale. (Amazon doesn’t specify how it picks these lucky eligible shoppers; all we know is that they’re exclusive to Prime members.) Check out Mashable’s invite-only deals guide if you’re interested in participating.

How can I prepare to find deals on Prime Day?

If you haven’t already, be sure to join Prime or start a free trial to participate. Remember, being a Prime member is the only way you’ll be able to access deals and savings on Prime Day.

Some additional ways to prepare include:

  • Get the newsletter: If you’re already a Prime member and have chosen to opt in to receiving emails, look out for the Prime Insider newsletter in your inbox to keep up with the growing list of member benefits and find updates on deals and events.
  • Create deal alerts for personalized recommendations: Prime members can subscribe to receive deal alert notifications related to their recent Amazon searches and recently viewed items. All they have to do is visit the Prime Day event page on the Amazon app between now and Prime Day to create deal alerts. Once Prime Day arrives, members will receive push notifications on any available deals.
  • Get deal notifications from Alexa: Prime members never have to worry about missing a deal thanks to Alexa. Prime members can ask Alexa for deal notifications on products added to their Wish List, Cart, or Save for Later. To get started, just ask, “Alexa, add [product name] to my cart,” and then ask Alexa to notify you about the deal when it’s live.
  • Set a reminder: Prime members can tell their Alexa devices, “Remind me when Prime Day starts,” to be alerted when the two-day deals event begins.
